Pondicherry now known as Puducherry is the capital and the most-populous city of the Union Territory of Puducherry in India. The city is in the Puducherry district on the southeast coast of India and is surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu, with which it shares most of its culture, heritage and language. Pondicherry is known for Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville attracting thousands of tourists to this beautiful city. Pondicherry is a tranquil retreat abounding with various beaches and lakes that takes the breath away of the tourists on the first glimpse.

Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences is one of the reputed dental colleges in Pondicherry, India. It was the first dental college of Pondicherry. The Institution has chosen the Motto “knowledge is power” emphasizing that knowledge is the most essential thing to empower a person.

It is a government dental college administered by the state/UT administration. This Institute is an autonomous body under the Govt. of Puducherry, administered by a constituted Board of Governors, headed by the Chief Secretary to Govt. of Puducherry as Chairman. It was established in the year 1990-91 at Indira Nagar, Gorimedu, Pondicherry. MGPGI, Pondicherry has been declared as the best dental institution in the country in the government sector.

The college is attached to Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Puducherry. The college is affiliated to prestigious Pondicherry University which is a Central University and recognised by the Dental Council of India.

Located in the sprawling area of 486632 sq ft., with a total student enrolment of around 296 students.  It is a premier dental institution with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and highly qualified and experienced faculty and doctors delivering quality education and best oral health care for the entire population of Pondicherry. The hospital has a well experienced set of faculty to provide excellent academic and clinical excellence. The college also encourages research and innovations.

The college has good clinical facility of about 228 dental chairs to cater to the needs of the patients. The college has good hostel accommodation and food facilities for both the boys and girls. There is 16 seat capacity for boys and 70 capacity of accommodation for girls. The institute has good department based laboratory facility with all state-of-the-art equipments for the benefit of the Students College has a good set up of library for the benefit of the students.

Accepted exam: NEET exam.

Separate hostels for boys and girls are thoroughly modern and air conditioned, offering single and twin sharing accommodation. There is 16 seat capacity for boys and 70 capacity of accommodation for girls. There are attached toilets with 24 hour supply of hot and cold water.

This Institute has an excellent Centralized Air Conditioned Library with a vast collection of International and National Dental / Medical and other allied health science books and journals. he book collection of the Library is 9180 and back volumes collection is 950. The library is subscribing 66 foreign Journals and 19 Indian journals.
