This college is Southeast Asia’s oldest college. It owes its existence to the legendary Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed (1890-1965). The college boasts an exemplary alumnus of notable graduates in the field of dentistry and surgery. It is India’s first dental college.

Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital is a Government dental college located in Sealdah, Kolkata, in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is recognised by Dental Council of India.

It is administered by the state/UT administration.  It was established on 1951-52 at 114 AJC  Bose Road, Opposite NRS Hospital, West Bengal. The institute is divided into two campuses: New Campus and old Campus. The undergraduate and postgraduate training for both pre-clinical and clinical aspects are imparted at the New and Old campuses. Clinical facilities for training in medical subjects are available at the NRS Medical College. The institution has facilities with more than 200-dental chairs. Hostel facilities are available for boys and girls.

The main mission of the college is to provide excellent knowledge and training to the students and deliver excellent patient care service within a safe environment. The college highly experienced and skilled staff and promises 100% assistance in placement of students.

The college has good clinical facility of about 300 dental chairs to cater to the needs of the patients. The college has good hostel accommodation and food facilities for both the boys and girls. There is 350 seat capacity for boys and 250 capacity of accommodation for girls. The institute has good department based laboratory facility with all state-of-the-art equipments for the benefit of the Students College has a good set up of library for the benefit of the students.
