Govt. Dental College, Srinagar
This is the first dental college in the beautiful valley of Jammu and Kashmir region. It was established in the year 1985-86 in the shireen Bagh area, Karan nagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It is a government hospital. It is run by the state government/UT administration authority. The college is attached to Government Medical College & Associated Hospital, Srinagar. It is one of the popular dental colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. It is affiliated to university of Kashmir, Srinagar and recognised by the Dental Council of India.
The college is spread across a magnanimous area of total 278058.2 sq ft. Area. The college has a very encouraging and practical atmosphere with highly skilled faculty and modern state of the art equipments for the benefit of the students. The institute encourages innovative teaching aids and methodology with emphasis on real-life experience-based teaching.
The college has good clinical facility of about 377 dental chairs to cater to the necessity of the patients. The college also recognizes meritorious students and helps them in acquiring scholarships.
The college has good hostel accommodation and food facilities for both the boys and girls. The institute has a hostel facility of 154 accommodations for boys and 140 accommodations for girls. The institute has good department based laboratory facility with all state-of-the-art equipments for the benefit of the students. Its rich library is equipped with internet facilities for the use of its students and faculty. The central library has a big collection of books/cds and journals both national and international, the procurement of which is done by the library committee, which takes care of the demands of every department. It also subscribes to several national and international journals. The Library has also interconnectivity with leading libraries like British Council library and other Medical Institutions. The college also has a art/photography section whose main aim is to provide visual assistance/help to the students/Departments of the college & Hospital for the levels of education and treatment.

FACILITIES
Hostel
The college has hostel facility for both girls and boys which provide good hostel accommodation for the students. The institute has a hostel facility of 154 accommodations for boys and 140 accommodations for girls. The girl’s hostel is four storied building accommodating about 140 girl students. The L-shaped four storied block of boy’s hostel accommodates about 150 students. The institute has a separate three storied building providing Residential facilities for faculty as well as DCI inspectors, examiners and other dignitaries visiting this institution. Both the boy and girl hostel has a big dining hall with attached kitchen which can cater more than 100 students at a time.
Library
Fully equipped library for the benefit of the students. Its rich library is equipped with internet facilities for the use of its students and faculty. The central library has a big collection of books/cds and journals both national and international, the procurement of which is done by the library committee, which takes care of the demands of every department. The institution offers a full-time undergraduate course (BDS) which is 4 Years course + 1 Year Internship i.e. a duration of 5 years and a full-time post graduate course(MDS) with a duration of 3 years. There is an intake of 63 undergraduate students per year. The total intake of post graduate seats per year is 28. The 28 post graduate seats as of 2020-21 include Periodontics (4 seat), Operative Conservative Dentistry (4 seat), Prosthodontics (4 seat), Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (4 seat), Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (3 seat) and Oral pathology (3 seat), pedodontics (3 seats), oral medicine (3 seat). The college also offers DDM (Diploma in dental medicine) course. It is a two year full-time course recognised by the University of Kashmir, Srinagar and Dental Council of India. Every year 9 students are enrolled into the course. The college also offers Diploma in Dental Hygienist course which is a full-time two-year course offered by the University of Kashmir, Srinagar and approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
